How to clean your vaporizer: a step-by-step guide
A vaporizer is an everyday object — and as with any device in daily use, care decides how long you enjoy it. The good news: cleaning your Smono takes less than five minutes if you do it regularly. This guide shows you step by step how to keep your vaporizer clean, which aids you need, and when reaching for a spare part beats any amount of scrubbing. The basics apply to all Smono models — from the Smono 3 to the 70s.
Why regular cleaning pays off
Vaporizing aromatic herbs leaves residue over time: fine particles in the screen, condensate in the mouthpiece, deposits in the herb chamber. That is entirely normal — but ignoring it has consequences:
- Flavour suffers first. Old residue masks the aroma of fresh herbs. If your favourite herb suddenly tastes dull, the herb is usually not to blame.
- Draw resistance rises. A clogged screen lets less air through — you pull harder and get less vapour.
- Heating becomes uneven. Deposits in the chamber act like an insulating layer and distort the temperature behaviour.
In short: a clean vaporizer vapes better, tastes better and lasts longer.
What you need
Caring for your Smono takes no special equipment. This small kit will get you a long way:
- Cleaning brush — included with many Smono models
- Cotton buds for the chamber and hard-to-reach corners
- Cleaning alcohol (isopropanol) from the pharmacy or chemist, for stubborn condensate on metal and glass parts
- A soft cloth for the housing
- Spare screens and seals for when cleaning is no longer enough
After every session: the two-minute routine
The most important care tip is also the simplest: empty the herb chamber right after the session, while the device is still hand-warm. Residue is still loose then and comes away with the brush in seconds. Once it has cooled and hardened, it turns into work.
- Switch the device off and let it cool briefly (hand-warm, not hot)
- Tap out the herb chamber over a container
- Brush out chamber and screen dry
- Blow through the mouthpiece briefly to prevent condensate building up
Tip: anyone working with dosing capsules has it even easier — the herbs stay in the capsule and the chamber itself stays largely clean. Matching sets are available for many models, for example the dosing capsule set for the Smono 3.
Once a week: the thorough clean
With regular use, a more thorough round once a week is worthwhile. Here is how:
Mouthpiece
Take the mouthpiece off and remove visible condensate with a cotton bud. For stubborn deposits, a cotton bud soaked in isopropanol helps — afterwards rinse thoroughly with warm water and let it dry completely before refitting it.
Screen
The screen is the bottleneck of your vaporizer. Brush it out dry first. If it stays clogged, soak it briefly in isopropanol, rinse it with water and let it dry. If a film remains after that, it is a case for replacement.
Herb chamber
The chamber itself is best cleaned dry, with brush and cotton buds. Important: liquid has no business in the chamber of an electrical device — work only with slightly damp cotton buds here, never under running water.
Housing
On the outside a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth is enough. Aggressive cleaners can attack the printing and the surface.
Clean or replace?
Some parts are wear parts — they are deliberately built to be replaced easily rather than scrubbed forever. Rules of thumb from practice:
- Screens: replace when you can no longer blow through them freely even after an alcohol bath
- Mouthpieces: replace when discolouration or loss of flavour persists
- Seals: replace as soon as they turn brittle or the device no longer closes cleanly
So that you always have the essential parts to hand, there are the Smono Bags — accessory sets with mouthpieces, screens and further spare parts, put together to match your model.
Mistakes to avoid
- Cleaning while hot: risk of burns and material stress — always let it cool briefly.
- Too much liquid: electronics and water do not mix. Use alcohol only on removable parts.
- Reassembling damp: every part must be completely dry before the device goes back into use.
- Sharp objects: scratches in the chamber or screen create new surfaces for deposits to cling to.
- Waiting too long: put cleaning off for months and what took two minutes will eventually take a whole evening.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I clean my vaporizer?
Tap out and brush the chamber after every session ideally, and give it a thorough clean around once a week depending on use. With daily use, rather more often.
Can I clean my mouthpiece in the dishwasher?
We recommend cleaning by hand: a short alcohol bath or warm water, then drying thoroughly. The dishwasher is too aggressive for small parts, and seals can suffer in it.
Where do I get spare parts for my model?
You will find all original spare parts directly in our shop — most easily through the Smono Bags or the accessory selection in your model's collection. As the manufacturer we deliver directly, shipped from Germany.
